Resonant Scanner and Laser Technology

Discuss a configuration Applications
Resonant scanner by FEMOtech with mirror element and electronics

FEMOtech develops and manufactures resonant scanners with scan frequencies up to 24 kHz and optical deflections of ±10°. Flat, stiff mirror elements with reflectivity up to 99.99 % guarantee beam quality; FPGA electronics with 0.8 ns real-time resolution handle control, synchronisation and API integration.

Frequently asked questions about resonant scanners

What is a resonant scanner?

A resonant scanner is a beam deflection system whose mirror oscillates at its mechanical resonance frequency. This yields very high, stable scan frequencies at low drive power. FEMOtech scanners operate at frequencies up to 24 kHz with optical deflections of ±10°.

What are the scanners used for?

Laser marking, surface and micro-material processing, microscopy and OCT as well as lidar applications: wherever a laser beam must be deflected fast, precisely and repeatably.

Can frequency and amplitude be adapted to my application?

Yes. The systems are available with different mirror sizes, scan frequencies and coatings. High-precision amplitude control ensures reproducible results; operation is possible at fixed frequency (FFM) or in PLL mode, and a programming API is provided for integration.

How do I synchronise the scanner with my laser?

The FPGA-based control electronics keep the scanner in resonance, determine the mirror position and generate all external trigger and synchronisation signals with an internal real-time resolution of 0.8 ns. The fixed frequency mode allows synchronisation with asynchronously pulsed lasers.
